PORTED as a term may be defined as: the manner in which one carries oneself; bearing*. This is a highly appropriate definition to use since ethics is more than just a metaphor for good behavior, its a physical and near tangible presence one possesses, owns, demonstrates, and values. Every branch of the military demonstrate ethics and the ethos that supports it; and the U.S. Marines embody it best. Semper Fi Always Faithful.

PORTED as an acrostic
P  – Problem – I recognize a conflict between my duty to ___ and my obligation to _____
O – Options – I have an opportunity to explore my options before I act
R – Respond – I have a responsibility to respond to the issue or situation, rather than react to it
T – Time – I must consider how this decision will impact me 10 minutes, 10 days, or 10 years from now
E – Edit – I will think through what I say before I say it, words spoken cannot be retrieved
D – Do – I am the decider and as such must act on my decision
