Everyone will say or write it differently, but the fundamental meaning is the same. Whether you are/were a Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, or Coastguardsman serving in our nations military, your service is appreciated. Regardless of your rank, grade, duty position, or title, your sacrifice is honored.
The next time someone says, “Thank you for your service” rather than replying with the typical, “You’re welcome.” Look them in the eye and say with pride, “It was an honor to serve.” And note their reaction. Many have little idea as to what you gave up, in order for them to be able to say “Thank you.”
Those who do, will understand your response better than most.
“We did what others could not do, and went where they would not. Our uniforms were green, not blue, when we were Soldier Cops.”
Let us never forget.
