A Thinking Tool for Today’s Leaders: What are the top three leadership challenges in your organization?
Leaders new and old have continually sought solutions to some of the toughest, most contentious of leadership challenges, with only moderate success. Consider the short list of 10 problem areas suggested by some readers. What might you add?
- motivating employees
- attracting and retaining high quality employees
- terminating employees for sub-par performance
- dealing with potential workplace violence
- poor communication
- defusing hostile work environment
- providing practical, meaningful employee training
- team-building or re-building with new employees
- dealing with workplace natural or man-made disaster
- gender and ethnic integration
Many would say that there are tons of books, CD/DVD’s, articles and training seminars that address all of these areas and they would be right…but the challenge isn’t in not having the information, it’s in not having the right information!
There are hundreds of self described professionals who talk a good game – but the successful leader/practitioner voice that we need to hear.
So, to address the above challenges, what would you suggest?
Whether you are a leader of one or one hundred and one, your input is necessary, valued and will be greatly appreciated by all. By sharing your ideas you can make someone else’s leadership journey a little less rocky.
If you’re under the impression that since you retired from your leadership role, you have little to offer, you would be wrong! From corporate America, to the Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, or Coastguardsmen, or private enterprise, your unique experiences are not duplicable. And since we are losing competent and experienced leaders far faster than they are being replaced, your contributions are invaluable.
The primary purpose of this post is to help identify the most common problems, and share solutions that work. You can help! Finding solutions to everyday leadership problems like these and sharing them is how we close the gap!
